Course Manager Update
Greens Report as of 28/04/2025
Golf Course update 28th April

Definitely not the weather I was expecting over the last 8 weeks but we’re making progress where we can and setting foundations for the season ahead. Dry and cold conditions limiting recovery and growth. Small windows of warm and forecast ahead is definitely more favourable. Irrigated areas are growing well and refinement work continues.

Non irrigated areas have been a lot slower to recover due to the lack of moisture but we’re still seeing movement in a positive direction but just a little slower. Wetting agents and bio stimulants have been applied to take full advantage of the precipitation they receive and maximise recovery potential.

Refinement work on the greens has consisted of verti cutting every 7-10 days followed by a dusting of topdressing. This helps stimulate new growth and also allows for control of lateral grass growth improving trueness.

We’ll be continuing this process moving forward and will also be looking at carrying out this process on approaches and tees as we look to take the turf quality to the next level.

Troublesome shaded tees such as 2,3,6,13 and 15 have been over seeded with a mix of seeds more tolerant to light limitations. So once germinated and established, I’m looking forward to seeing how these perform.

Spot seeding on greens and approaches will be a focus over the next week and then divoting of the fairways starting with the weakest first, to continue to push recovery.

The next few weeks applications of pgr (plant growth regulator) will play a massive part in our maintenance plan. These minimise upward growth of the grass but help thicken and improve drought tolerances.

New additions on the course in the form of the fairway’s yardage markers,150 posts and new metal hole cups, I hope you agree these continue to improve the aesthetics of the golf course. With new flags been delivered this week hopefully another step in the right direction.

Bunkers, a work in progress and plans to improve in the future, but in the short term we’re looking at cleaning up the existing sand through sieve rakes and topping up sand levels as well as redistribution of existing sand . This will improve the current quality of the bunkers and move them in a positive direction towards the quality we are working towards.

Finally thank you all for your continued support and positive feedback from people out on the course it’s really appreciated by the whole team . We are looking forward to the summer ahead and will continue to push standards forward across the course and thank you to everyone using the divoting bags, and generally playing their part to help protect the course where possible.

Many thanks,
