Following last week’s 15 mm of rain, this week up to Friday produced none, but we did briefly have a 'heat-wave'. That and overnight watering stimulated some strong growth on the greens, which means another spray with growth regulator is due. This past few days it has been too hot to spray. The green speed on Friday was 9’, which is our target. Gavin would like to vertidrain the greens but the course calendar does not have space to accommodate the short-term disruption this causes.
The hot dry weather has made the rye grass stalks on the fairways grow vigorously. They are so tough our cylinder fairway mowers can’t cut them: we need to run the semi-rough rotary mower over them, but we are short-staffed and can’t spare the resource to do it at the moment.
