We are seeing an increasing number of Disqualifications and No Returns in competitions where players are not fulfilling their obligations as required by the WHS Rules of Handicapping.
We have discovered a significant number of instances where unacceptable DQ & NR scores have resulted in an upward handicap change. For fairness, we have reversed all such increases that have occurred since April 1 this year.
We would therefore clarify the following rules, which all competition entrants MUST follow.
1. All entrants MUST return a correctly filled out paper scorecard for their round.
2. The club bye-laws (bye-law 27) require that all players MUST also enter their score into the score entry computer (whenever it is in operation); players also have the option to enter their scores via their V1 app. This is a condition of entry to the competition.
Not doing so also means that any leader board on V1 is inaccurate.
Players who ignore this rule and simply drop their scorecard in the box, thereby creating additional work for the competitions committee, will be banned from competitions for one month.
3. Players who fail to complete a hole (e.g. because of a lost ball etc.) can NR that hole, it is accepted a player may NR a number of holes for this reason. However, players MUST continue to enter a score for all other holes played. It is a breach of rules to think you are ‘out of the competition’ and not enter your score for subsequent holes.
There has been an instance of a player recording NR on the 2nd hole and failing to record any score for the remaining 16 holes, gaining a 1 shot increase.
4. Where a player neither submits a paper scorecard, nor enters their score in the score entry computer they will receive a penalty score in accordance with WHS Rules of Handicapping. If the committee can determine the player’s actual score by investigation that score may also be entered on their playing record.
Members who receive 3 penalty scores in a 12 month period, from competition or general play scores, may be banned from competitions for one month.
Under rule 7.1c of the Rules of Handicapping a player who deliberately or repeatedly fails to comply with the player’s responsibilities or competition rules of entry can have their handicap withdrawn for a prescribed period of time, determined by the Handicap Committee.
