East Sussex National are Sussex Team Champions
Brilliant win for East Sussex National scratch team
East Sussex National's scratch team are Sussex County Champions. The team defeated East Brighton GC 8 1/2 - 3 1/2 in Saturday's final at Haywards Heath GC.
Neil Gray, Captained the team on the day and got his batting order spot on.

A beautiful sunny day welcomed both teams as the matches started at 8.00am.

It wasn’t long before the ESN team took leads and soon had 3 points on the board as the first 3 matches were all won 5/4 , East Brighton took the last foursomes to keep the match alive.

3-1 at lunch to ESN.

East Brighton had to pack the order in the afternoon singles with strength, but Captain Neil, backed the quality of his ESN players and matched their team.

Club Champion, Mark Budd went out first against Toby Graves, former professional and made lightwork of his task with a comfortable win in a power-hitting duel.

Ash Rees brought in the 2nd point of the afternoon in a high-quality match against Josh Hayes, Sussex County player.

Dean Plant won his match against another quality player Josh Wyatt leaving a point required for victory.

Joshua Hardy , in good form following his recent win in the Little Horsted Cup secured the winning point with a win over Mark Buss.

Tom Foreman secured a halved match to give ESN an unassailable 7 ½ - 1 points lead, Lee Drew won his match to take the points total to 8 ½ points.

A note of congratulations to East Brighton, their first final for nearly 30 years and who played the matches in fantastic spirit and were worthy finalists having won some great matches en route to the final.
