What a fantastic weekend of golf we have just had!
As usual the club championship throws up the weird and wonderful, we had a record number of members tee off before realising they had forgotten to put thier golf shoes on, cue mad dash to the car park to change shoes...Disappointingly, there was only one snapped club all weekend however this was equalled out by the excellent excuses given for not showing up on Sunday! All in all the pro shop team were kept entertained.
Joking aside, it was the largest club championship entry for several years if not ever, with 94 players in the original draw. It was also the first time we have played Mens, Ladies and Junior championships at the same time.
The course was in great shape, the rain had taken the sting out of the fairways, the greens were fantastic and course set up was very fair. Huge thank you to the greens team who as usual went above and beyond then a little bit more to produce a fantastic course both days.
My thanks to Andy Teague and Gavin Churchman who gave out the prizes as follows:
Our Junior Club Champion for 2025 is Jago Skerratt and Junior nett champion is Scott Harris. Well played both!
Our ladies Club Champion for 2025 is Donna Steele and Nett champion is one of our juniors, Sophia Turonnet, which is great to see!
The Nett Championship could have realistically been won by almost 15 players as we started play on day two! Sam Woodham and Ryan Sears lead the way after day one both scoring excellent nett 69's. Ryan Sears was also in contention for the gross championship having shot 75 on day one. Best of the day in the main championship came from Connor Boyle and Simon Durham both scoring superb 74's in tricky conditions.....All to play for!
As is so often the case in two day championships, those that slept on the lead started to falter on day two, in the nett championship Dylan Cilliers took his opportunity and produced a superb nett 70 to leapfrog the overnight leaders and become our nett champion for 2025, well played Dylan!
Our 2022 and 2023 champion was also lurking after day one, having shot 75 on Saturday, one shot behind the leaders, he will have no doubt been thinking that an under par round would probably earn him a third title, he was correct, holing a 10ft birdie putt on the 18th hole to claim the 2025 championship. Nice golf Aidan!
Sandra and her team in the bar/kitchen produced a lovely meal for everyone following play and the celebrations went on until quite late in the bar!
Thank you to everyone that played and to Matt, Toby and Joe in the shop who did all the admin, ensuring the smooth running of the championships.
We always operate the one prize rule, the higher value prize takes precedent.
