Seniors Coast to Victory
Local Derby Vicory
WCGC Seniors hosted Cape Cornwall Golf Club in the return leg of this year’s local derby on Thursday 11th September. Heavy showers predicted for most of the day did not dampen the home team spirit and the hosts were quick to post an early point when Captain Dennis Fryer and partner Antony Richards delivered a 3&2 victory.
This was soon followed by a further point from Vice Captain Tom Gair and Mike Nelhams (2&1) before the visitors pulled level in the next two matches.
Any nerves in the clubhouse were quickly dispelled when David Winks and partner Jim Sinclair-Smith cruised to a 7&6 victory, shortly followed by a solid half from the final pairing of Ray Pearce and Bill Francis.
Well done to Tom Gair for scooping the nearest the pin prize on 15th.
Both teams deserved praise for battling through a few squally downpours but were rewarded with a hearty fish and chips meal from Kate and her catering team.
Next up Mullion away on Thursday 22nd September.
