Weekly Course Update
It’s been another week of slow growth across the course, which has limited the amount of cutting we’ve been able to carry out on the greens. Instead, we’ve focused on ironing to maintain as much smoothness and consistency as possible, particularly with grasses currently growing at different rates.
Soil temperatures remained in single figures earlier in the week but are beginning to rise as we head into the weekend. Moisture continues to be a challenge, with no natural rainfall and persistent winds drying out surfaces. We’ve increased our watering programme to help manage this and are closely monitoring moisture levels. There is some rain forecast over the weekend, which will be a welcome boost.
All other playing surfaces have been maintained, with collars hand cut twice to keep definition sharp. Holes have been changed regularly and teeing areas kept tidy. A couple of the par 3 tees have been overseeded again and hand watered to aid recovery in these high-wear areas.
Path work is now nearing completion, with the majority of paths bark chipped and only a few left to freshen up next week.
The practice area has also had further attention this week. The bunker has been lined and will be topped up with sand next week, while the surrounding area has been divoted, overseeded and cut twice. We’re hopeful this area will be ready for play very soon, with a couple of flags in place on the green. Ongoing maintenance will now help this area continue to improve year on year.
With another Bank Holiday weekend ahead, greens will be cut for Saturday’s Medal and Stableford, with full course set-up planned for Sunday and Monday ahead of the upcoming competitions.
Looking Ahead
Next week, the focus will remain on maintaining all playing surfaces, continuing to water where required, and applying further selective weed control as weather conditions allow.

Enjoy your weekend

Dave.
