Course Manager Update
Greens report March 2026
Golf Course update March 2026

After what began to feel like endless rain, a better forecast has given us the opportunity to push forward. Most areas have received or are in process of having their first cut. The height of cuts is still higher than usual and will gradually be reduced across all areas as weather and ground conditions improve.

The turf laid on tees 6,8, and 17 has begun to root. Mowing, feeding and topdressing will continue to be carried out to help settle these and bring them into play for the season ahead.

Maintenance week carried out on the week commencing the 2nd of March was successful. The greens were solid tined for the 3rd time this year to a depth of 150mm. Then they were over seeded with a mix of brown top and creeping bent grass. To finish the works a little topdressing of around 5 tones and an iron to improve settling and seed to soil contact. Our aim continues to improve soil/root structure as well as improved surface sward and playability.

Tees and approaches were also solid tined and over seeded with ultra fine rye species to improve wear tolerance and improve playability. Our aim is to improve these areas to give a thicker surface to support extensive play at higher quality. A granular fertilizer has been applied to all these areas to continue improvement as we move into spring.

Fairways have been mown where possible, and some areas have been cut with a smaller lighter machine, they’ve benefited from the roping off and resting of certain areas. An area of the course we’d like to continue to improve through more aeration, drainage, and nutrition. Alongside this we’re awaiting delivery of our new fairway mower which will give us a higher quality and more reliable cut.

The irrigation system has been primed and upgrades to sprinkler heads and solenoid valves ongoing.

Cosmetic works around the course in the form of the painted tee signage and bases, tee markers painted and new yardage spots to be installed. Also new ball washers are on order, and 2 new divot bag stations are to be installed.

I’d like to thank everyone for their patience over what seemed to be a long winter and look forward to progressing the course as it transitions into spring.

Many thanks
