What's been happening
Dear member

Here comes the sun! It has been without a doubt the busiest couple of weeks at the club. Full of competitions, member golf and visiting societies and all players would have been able to enjoy their round with some beautiful weather. Just to top it all off, today might be the best day for weather we have had this year and the tee sheet is full!

With that being said, it looks as though we can expect some rain over the bank holiday weekend. Whilst this may be frustrating for those hoping to get some extra days of golf in, the course will be grateful for some wet weather.

COURSE UPDATE
The Green Keepers have been non-stop with different projects the past couple weeks. As most of you would have noticed they have been cutting down some of the trees next to the 11th. This will allow for more exposure to sunshine and increase air-flow which will ensure the tee gets less wet in the winter. The guys have also finished the work on the pathways last week, astroturfing from the 10th hole down to the 11th tee. The main project this week however has been the driving range extension work. We appreciate everyone's patience with the closure of the range, for those that missed the last communication we are extending the length of the driving range, adding mounding to the rear plus new posts and netting which should then allow most golfers to hit at least fairway woods without hitting over the nets.

PITCH MARKS
Thank you very much to everyone for their efforts on the green repairing pitch marks, it has certainly not gone unnoticed. Duncan and his team have made us all aware that even after some of the busy days we have had the past week that there has been a massive improvement.

SPRING FOURSOME MAJOR
It was again a beautiful day for golf, a little bit fresh in the morning although the sun came out once again for a warm mid-morning. The course played beautifully. I hope everyone has been able to play some golf in the past week as the greens are really playing great. This was matched with some great golf! An honourable mention has to go out to Paul Kitching and Norman Cilliers for shooting a level par gross round in alternate shot format. That's a fantastic score especially considering it is the first round this year playing from the blue tees. However this was beat by a score of 41 points which is a great effort! Below I have added the results.
1st - Edward Guda & Kuda Makurumure - 41pts = £100
2nd - Sheldon Halley & James Hannaford - 39pts = £80
3rd - Paul Kitching & Norman Cilliers - 39pts = £60
4th - Colin Dullingham & Dan Pink - 38pts = £40
5th - James Feasey & Adam Kerr - 37pts = £20

MID HANDICAP MATCH REPORT
Below is the report from our Mid handicap Captain Stuart Jennings.

This year's County Mid HC competition is now underway. A number of members have asked how the comp works, so let me offer a brief explanation.

The comp is made up of 18 clubs from across Beds, drawn into groups of 4 or 5, with the top two clubs after the group phase progressing into the KO rounds. Each team consists of 5 players split into 3 HC brackets. 1 player of HC 13.5+, 2 players between 9.5-13.4, and 2 players between 5.5-9.4. Games are then played as Scratch Singles Strokeplay Vs a similarly bracketed opponent.

I'm happy to report that the team of Dan Kidman, Rich Yeeles, Darren Leach, Sam Woodham and Adam Routh were victorious in our first match of the campaign, at home to Chalgrave, winning 3-2. I should also mention that, even in defeat, Chalgrave were still extremely complimentary of both our course and of the food supplied in the clubhouse.

Our next match is away to Leighton Buzzard on Sunday May 24th.
