Massey Triumphs as Caldwell Classic Raises £1,400
The wind didn't phase our winner!!
A field of 74 golfers took part in the annual Caldwell Classic charity golf day on Saturday, with home favourite Jason Massey producing a winning performance to claim top spot with an impressive 40 points. The popular event attracted a strong turnout, featuring 28 members from MV and 46 paying visiting players, all taking part in a shotgun start that ensured a busy and competitive day across the course. While the blustery conditions tested players throughout, spirits remained high as competitors battled for a host of prizes. Four-ball vouchers at local courses were among the rewards on offer, alongside nearest-the-pin competitions on the par threes and nearest-the-pin-in-two challenges on selected holes. Organisers also paid tribute to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, whose hole sponsorships and raffle prize donations helped make the event another resounding success. Off the course, the clubhouse bar was packed as the shotgun start allowed everyone to celebrate together as players and guests gathered to share stories from their rounds and celebrate another memorable edition of the Caldwell Classic. Thanks must go to the staff on the day and some impromptu volunteers that made sure everyone was fed and watered - and the greenstaff for presenting a fantastic course for us to show off! A brief interlude to sing a quick 'Happy Birthday' to our host - John Caldwell - as he turns 70 this Wednesday - with an amazing cake to share. Before thoughts turned back to the beers!! Most importantly, the event raised an impressive £1,400 for St Rocco's, the Club Captain's chosen charity for 2026, ensuring the day delivered benefits both on and off the fairways. With a worthy champion crowned, significant funds raised for a good cause, and positive feedback from participants, organisers are already hopeful that the Caldwell Classic can return to "The Valley" next year. For everyone involved, it was truly a case of win, win, win.
