Dear Members, It was a memorable weekend at Wyke Green which hosted the Middlesex Championships and saw one of its own members triumph. The course was in spectacular condition with firm, fast greens and the addition of gusty winds on Friday and Saturday meant scoring was challenging. Joe and Rymer Smith made it through to the Men’s knockout stages on Saturday however weren’t able to progress to the quarter finals. In the Women’s Championship however Lulu Housman produced 2 superb rounds in the difficult conditions to lead qualifying by 5 shots. On Sunday Lulu continued her great form to win first her semi final and then the final 3&2 against Gemma Allman, a plus-handicap golfer from Stanmore. What was even more remarkable was that Lulu has won this event previously aged 33, 44, 55 and now has done again at the age of 66! A wonderful achievement and we wish Lulu all the best for 11 years’ time! In the Men’s Final Freddie Tucker from Highgate beat Tayan Wagjiani of Sudbury 4&2. Middlesex Golf and all of the competitors were very complimentary about the course and the hospitality, and hosting this event can only have enhanced Wyke Green’s reputation among Middlesex golf clubs.
