Midsummer Round Up
The latest news from the club
Hello to all members. We hope you have been enjoying this long dry spell & playing lots of golf. The course remains in great condition despite the hot weather & is holding up well considering the amount of golf that is being played during this busy period. The first bit of news we'd like to share with you is about our Ladies teams. Once again they have both progressed to the Interclub finals in September.Although we have one of the smallest ladies sections in our region we are the most successful! Well done to all involved. On another note, Judy Williams shot an incredible 46 points in the Ultimate Cup last weekend. Well played Judy. In other team news, our 1st team stand on the edge of promotion with 2 matches to go. They currently hold a 10 point lead heading into those matches. The 2nd team hold a very slender lead in the 6-18 League with 4 matches to go. That league will most likely go down to the wire. Our Rabbits Captain & Vice Club Captain, John Thompson & Geoff Howell have reached the section final of the Yorkshire Rabbits Fowler Trophy after a 6&5 win over Meltham last week. Not a bad effort after starting out with 60 participating clubs. Well done also to Andy Trollope who became the latest member to score a Hole In One during the Midsummer Betterball. Andy's ace came on the 15th hole. While mentioning the Midsummer Betterball, the winners were Matt Brammer & Tom Saddington with a score of 46 points. We must give a mention to John Keyworth & Gary Thompson who were the latest trophy winner in late June, early July respectively. John won the Centenary Medal with a net score of 67 with Martin Mulkeen being the runner up. Gary Fulwood was the best gross scorer on the day with a 71. Gary took home the Ray Cutts Trophy with a score of 38 points on a low scoring day. One of only 3 players under par, with Mark Buck & Gary Armitage the other 2 players scoring 37 each. The most recent Ladies majors have been won by Madam President,Jackie Heald, who won the Ladies Centenary Medal, Judy Williams as mentioned previous won the Ultimate Cup & Lady Captain Jayne Briggs who took home the Ladies Alan Clarke Commemorative yesterday. The Teams Trophy this Saturday was won by Dave Caswell, Dave Barton,Wyn Lloyd & Andy Trollope winning by a shot from runners up Paul Smith,George Claridge,Colin Quigley & Martin Johnson. Well played to all mentioned & thanks to everyone else for playing. As we head into August theres still a lot of golf to be played. This Saturday is the Lloyd Cup. Sunday we host the Aitchison Final. There are a number of courtesy rounds available. The sheet for these has been put up this morning. Next Wednesday (5th) is the Seniors & Veterans Trophies. Anyone over 50 can play in these. There are 3 trophies to play for. Categories are 50-59, 60-69 & 70 & over. Please note: The 70 & overs play off the yellow tees. Everyone else off the WHITES. The 5th round of the Grunhalle takes place on Thursday 6th & the weekend of the 8/9th is the Presidents Day Betterball & the August Sunday Medal. A few weeks later we have our Ladies Open & The Chris Bassett Trophy Open. Please see the club website for details of these has both have places available for entries. The Gents Open, postponed from the 3rd July, will now not take place this year. A couple of other things to mention are our Dress Code. Again this can be found on the website but 2 things that keep occuring are shirts outside shorts/trousers & caps being worn incorrectly. Can members please make sure their shirts are tucked in and caps are worn correctly,i.e.peak to the front. Rakes. Please place the rake IN THE BUNKER when you have raked it. Do not leave it outside the bunker. We thank you for your co-operation with these issues. Enjoy the rest of your week.
