The annual Men’s & Ladies Club Championships was held over the weekend with 119 players contesting the events. David Marris became the Men’s Club Champion for the fourth time and Tabby Brain won the Ladies Club Champion for the third consecutive year. David, 27, who plays off scratch opened with a four over par 76 on day one, which was four shots behind leader Michael Harvey on level par 72, with Chris Davey on 73. Second round conditions proved very difficult with high winds and a firm running course. The leading group of Michael Harvey, Chris Davey and defending Champion, Teddy Hall all struggled on the front nine in the tricky conditions with 44 ,42 & 44 respectively on a par 37. This brought a number of players into contention going into the final nine holes. David Marris managed a one over par 36 on the back nine, which included a chip in birdie on the last. This was enough to secure a three shot victory from Adam Ranner (76+79=155), with Ross Isbister (156). Tabby Brain, a scratch handicapper, opened her treble attempt with a sensational three under par 69, which included five birdies, plus the highlight of the round being an eagle on the fourth hole, with the ball hanging over the hole for an elusive albatross. This established a nine shot halfway lead from Marcella Tuttle. A second round of 79 in high winds secured Tabby the Championship with a 148 total for a nine shot victory from Jackie Ewing (157). Third was Sarah Greenall with a total of 159. Tabby also won the Ladies Paula Ewing Handicap Trophy (146) from Naomi Pilmer (net 148), with Jenny Horsfield third (149). Saturday’s round meant Tabby has now achieved a plus 1 handicap. The Men’s handicap trophy (Reynolds Salver) was won by Adam Ranner with rounds of net 69 & 72 for a 141 total, winning by one. Runner up was Mark Canham with a 142 total, third was Kevin Mason (143). The Bronze Robin Trophy for ladies 21-36 handicaps was won by Antonia Kennedy (gross 206). The Men’s Ennion Salver for handicaps 19-28 was won by Michael Morris with 40 points, from Andy Peck 39 points. The Ladies Pilmer-Parr Trophy for 37-54 handicaps was won by Marie-Anne Rodolakis with 40 points.
