Summer League - Match Report
(RBGS v Duddingston GC – Tuesday 4th August 2026)
After a short break from the group stages, we were back in action for our home Quarter Final against Duddingston, traditionally a very tough opponent. From now on it’s a straight knockout, and we move up from an 8-a-side team to 9. After 5 holes, we were up in 3 matches, with first-out Archie Finnie 3 up, Malcolm Pennycott 2 up, and Alan Ker 4 up. It was a great start, with the other 6 matches all square or with just 1 hole in it. The weather took a turn for the worse and the heavens opened with some heavy showers. Thankfully, as we headed over to the 9th tee and 12th green, Archie had won his match in a canter, winning 6&5. Malcolm was 5 up, and looking at Alan's match too, it seemed we had 3 points in the bag. Needing 2 more points the remaining games were evenly balanced, and the overall result hung on these very tight matches. James Kempster’s match was significant; from 1 down, he’d turned it around and was 3 up after 12, going on to win 4&3. Jake Johnston was 1 up playing against Scottish International Jamie Duguid, Duddingston’s Club Champion. Jake played some sparkling golf and managed to win 1 up at the last, giving us the 5th point. With the order changing slightly, it meant we’d won the first 5 matches, at which point—with the evening drawing in—several hands were shaken and halved matches declared. A very good win against very tough opponents. We move onto the Semi Final!
