Beaumont Trophy
Gorleston Win County Trophy
?? GORLESTON ARE BEAUMONT TROPHY CHAMPIONS! ?? A fantastic day for Gorleston Golf Club as our team secured the Beaumont Trophy for the first time in the Club’s history. The final was played at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club, where Gorleston faced a strong Fynn Valley side after both teams had battled their way through the earlier rounds of the competition. As you would expect from a final, the opening holes were a cagey affair, with both teams settling into their matches and neither side wanting to give much away. However, as the morning progressed, Gorleston began to get their noses in front. Strong and determined golf throughout the team gradually built an advantage, and by the halfway stage Gorleston had established an excellent 5-hole lead. There was still plenty of golf to be played and the job was far from finished, but the team continued to apply the pressure over the second nine. Rather than simply trying to protect the advantage, the players continued to push forward, extending the lead as the matches progressed. By the end of play, Gorleston had increased the margin to an impressive 11 holes, securing the match and, with it, the Beaumont Trophy. GORLESTON – BEAUMONT TROPHY WINNERS It is a very proud moment to see the Gorleston name engraved on the trophy for the first time, and an achievement that everyone involved with the team should be extremely proud of. While only eight players could represent Gorleston in the final, this victory was about far more than those who played on the day. Getting through a knockout competition and reaching a County final takes a genuine squad effort. Different players have represented the Club throughout the competition, and every match, every hole won and every contribution along the way played a part in getting us to Bury St Edmunds. Our congratulations and thanks therefore go to the entire Gorleston squad: Tony Jackson Andy McCann Joe MacMurray Wayman Arundel Tony Wren Martin Farrow Roy Tovell Martin Pestle Andy Podd Phil Jeneau A huge thank you must also go to everyone who has supported the team throughout the competition. It was fantastic to see members making the effort to come along to the final at Bury St Edmunds, as well as supporting us during the previous rounds. Having fellow members alongside the course makes a real difference in team golf, and the encouragement the players received throughout the competition was greatly appreciated. For me personally, it has been a privilege to Captain this group of players. The team spirit, commitment and desire to represent Gorleston Golf Club in the right way have been evident throughout the competition. To see all that effort rewarded by bringing the trophy back to Gorleston makes the achievement even more special. My thanks go to every player who represented the Club, everyone who supported us along the way and all those who played their part behind the scenes. The Beaumont Trophy is coming to Gorleston for the first time – and that is something we can all be very proud of. Congratulations to the whole team. Keith Newman-Allen Seniors Captain
