15 golfers descended on Lakeside Lodge Golf Club, Pidley, for the annual Captains Away Weekend and with the sun shining and the alcohol flowing, it turned out to be a fantastic weekend from start to finish! Everyone enjoyed thems elves, indulging in the excellent food on offer, witnessing some awesome golf shots and most importantly, enjoying the camaraderie that makes these weekends so special. Of course, for some of the younger members of the group, the atmosphere proved a little too tempting. Overindulgence and fatigue began to take their toll on the golf course! Ex-Captain Ryan left plenty to be desired with his golf, but managed to display a level of class on the bowling alley to save face. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Kane Waldron, who produced a questionable 25-34-25 Stableford haul across the three days to claim the wooden spoon! Now, down to what really matters… the golf competition. Three days of Stableford golf were played in near-perfect weather conditions on a course that has endured a hard summer but nonetheless, was looking in incredible condition. Friday 1st - Keith Phillips - 39 Points 2nd - Tom Hall - 37 Points 3rd - Alex Shepherd - 36 Points (OCB) Saturday 1st - Keith Phillips - 42 Points 2nd - Mason Hannant - 38 Points 3rd - Dom Hazard - 37 Points Sunday 1st - Keith Phillips - 46 Points 2nd - Gareth Hall - 40 Points 3rd - Adrian Hannant - 38 Points OVERALL WINNERS 1st - Keith Phillips - 127 Points 2nd - Gareth Hall - 110 Points 3rd - Adrian Hannant - 107 Points (OCB) 4th - Alex Shepherd - 107 Points 5th - Tom Hall, Dave Bates, Martin Lawes & Mason Hannant - 102 Points each While many players performed admirably, there was one man who set the standard throughout the weekend, extending his lead with every passing day. Keith Phillips, known affectionately over the weekend as ‘El Bandito’, produced a level of golf that was simply unmatched. Calls for a handicap cut echoed throughout the weekend, although thankfully all were made in good humour! Keith rounded off his weekend with a fine speech on the final day, thanking everyone for making it such a fantastic weekend and generously donating money towards the Captain’s Charity. As Ryan’s final act as Club Captain, it was a memorable send-off before he and his family welcome their second child very soon. A huge well done to everyone who took part. The laughter was contagious, the golf was entertaining, the banter was relentless and, most importantly, the weekend was a fantastic success! Here’s to the next one!
