Tuesday saw the final round of The Vets played out in blustery and at times damp conditions. And maybe conditions had a bit of an impact on turnout, as there was a very low number of players on the day. That said, Donald Caskie had a fine day taking the honours in September’s round with a solid 37 points. Donald’s 37 points edged out Jim Stewart by a point, with Jim shooting an excellent scratch 76 for 36 points. And in 3rd place, just a point further back was Harburn stalwart David Russell with a very tidy 35 points. Good shooting from all 3 given the blustery wind at times. There was just a solitary birdie 2 on the 3rd green for Billy Deerness, well done Billy. Turning to the overall competition and it’s a hearty congratulations to The Veterans winner for 2026 Gordon More. Gordon only managed 34 points in his final round, but such was the strength of his previous scoring, it didn’t really matter in the final tally. Gordon’s rounds in May (40 points) June (36 points) and July 41 points sees him winning at a canter with a total of 117 points. In second place with 111 points was Robert Smith and in third place with 110 points was Grant Hawthorne. Congratulations to Gordon for his success! There is a provisional date of 29th September for a 12 hole Chapman Scramble, followed by breakfast ( provided free for all participants on the day) and prize giving.
