HALLOWEEN SCRAMBLE BRINGS THE CURTAIN DOWN ON QUALIFYING GOLF
And that’s a wrap, at least as far as qualifying golf is concerned!
The 2026 qualifying season came to a close in suitably different fashion at Mersey Valley on Sunday, with our first ever Halloween Texas Scramble also marking the final weekend competition to be run through ClubV1 before we move on to the new apps!
For a first attempt at a Halloween Scramble, it certainly seemed to land well. A shotgun start, teams heading out together, plenty of Halloween spirit and a more social feel around the clubhouse made for a cracking way to bring the qualifying season to an end.
On the course, the final honours of the ClubV1 era went to M. Houghton, G. Sullivan, P. Sullivan and A. Findlater, who produced an excellent nett 53 to take first place. A. Holland, S. Gough, B. Lund and Vice Captain P. Mullarkey finished runners-up on 55, with S. Moss, W. Millar, C. Moss and P. Walton third on 57.
But Halloween isn’t Halloween without fancy dress, and Tim Jones walked away with the £50 Pro Shop gift voucher for best fancy dress. A fine effort and, judging by the reaction to the day, possibly a title worth defending next year!
More importantly, the format itself seemed to go down really well. The shotgun start gave the day a proper event feel, with everyone starting and finishing around the same time, and it’s definitely something we’ll be looking to use more often.
And after the reaction to our first Halloween Scramble, don’t be surprised if it finds itself a permanent place in the calendar. We’ve already got the Santa Dash as our Christmas Scramble, so perhaps Halloween has just earned itself a regular spot alongside it.
So, qualifying golf might be finished, but the golf certainly isn’t.
Thanks to everyone who played and supported the day, and to everyone who has taken part in competitions throughout the qualifying season.
One qualifying season finished. One system retired.
But there’s still plenty more golf to come.
